The Wind-Ups -- Songs That Don't Suck

We're the Wind-Ups, a rock trio out of Greenville. The three of us (Keith, Cliff, and Luke) first got together in 2005 to work on some songs Keith had put together. Check out our music, and if you have the means to book us, shoot us an email and we'll set something up.

Also, be sure to check out The Wind-Ups FAQ.

Keith Groover
Vocals, guitar, songwriting, the mastering of webs.

Keith grew up in the South, started playing music around four, began on the piano, then the trombone, then guitar, then bass, then a sequencer, then double bass, then went off to school (Indiana U.) to become a classical musician, realized he hated being a classical musician because being in an orchestra is like being in a cover band, the only difference is that you get no food after a show and nobody expects you to play the Electric Slide, so he went to a different school (USC) to become a composer, graduated school to become a guitar teacher and to write really long run-on sentences on his band's webpage. His band experience began in 10th grade with DOCTOR RHUBARB, a jam band before jam bands were not cool. He went on to mess around with a bunch of other bands, including a jam punk band (don't ask) that sucked. The Wind-Ups is his baby, not unlike an actual baby, except that the Wind-Ups is a band whereas a baby is a small human with no teeth or bowel control.

favorite movies, books, coffeeshops, brands of clothing, etc.: Honestly, why should you care? I'm in a dang band, folks, there's just no reason.

Luke Langner
Bass, backing vocals, 80s trivia

Luke Langner. Bassist, Guitarist, Singerist, Alumni of Clemson, and part-time serial killer. Ha ha, just kidding, Luke would never even think of hurting the English language by substituting "Alumni" where its proper singular form, "Alumnus", should go. Anywho, Luke enjoys hanging out with his wife Lisa and their two kids, watching the "occasional" race (he feels terrible when they wreck, and he always turns the channel), going to PTA meetings, and burying his dead. That's right, his Grateful Dead collection is currently being buried in the enormous and growing pile of music he collects, covering virtually every genre, except probably rap ("it's just too morbid", he says). His musical heroes include bands such as Cannibal Corpse, Marilyn Manson, The Killers, Murder by Death, Death Angel, and of course, The Gaithers. Luke looks forward to killing crowd members with his sharp and pointed bass playing, and wracking up larger and larger numbers of bodies, ie, people that come out to the shows.

Cliff Styles
Drums, percussion, strange noises

Cliff began dabbling in the rhythmic arts in high school. His early primary influence was Neil Peart of Rush fame, and as soon as he could afford it, he went out and bought a decidely "Peartian" seventeen-piece drumset, complete with gong rack, double kick-drums, windchimes, forty-five cymbals, three timpani, and two Filipino children. When not rocking out Canadian style, he restores vintage Volkswagons and plays with his twin girls, Sam and Emma. When you come to a show, make sure to wave to Paolo and Pepe. They work hard for their daily allowance of one half-glass of dirty water and a small bowl of beans to share, so they deserve a little gratitude.
